Five Notables Named to Paper Industry International Hall of Fame
Douglas Atack, Raymond Mundt, John Reeve, Darwin Smith and Richard Wollenberg Chosen as Paper Hall's 10th Induction Class
Appleton, Wis. (July 22, 2004) The Paper Industry International Hall of Fame’s membership roster will expand to 64 on September 22 with the induction of five more paper industry notables who have been chosen as the 10th anniversary induction class.
Douglas Atack, Raymond Mundt, John Reeve, Darwin Smith and Richard Wollenberg will join 59 previous members of the Paper Hall during induction ceremonies at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton, Wisconsin, U.S.A. Richard Pratt, one of the world’s most renowned paper executives, was previously announced as the keynote speaker for the 10th induction ceremony. Pratt is chairman of Australian-based Visy Industries and, as a 2002 inductee, is the first Hall of Fame member to return as the event’s main speaker.
The Paper Industry International Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who pioneered and/or helped the world’s paper and allied industries to flourish.
Three from this year’s class of inductees are being recognized for their leadership, one for research and development, and one for the categories of leadership, entrepreneur, and marketing/sales. Four of the inductees are retired. Smith died in 1995, three years after retiring as chairman of Kimberly-Clark Corp.
The 2004 inductees are (more detailed information follows):
· Douglas Atack, retired, vice president, Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada (PAPRICAN), Pointe Claire, Quebec, Canada;
· Raymond B. Mundt, retired, chairman and CEO, Alco Standard Corporation, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.;
· John P. Reeve, retired, president and CEO, Appleton Papers, Appleton, Wisconsin, U.S.A.;
· Darwin E. Smith, deceased, chairman and CEO, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.;
· Richard P. Wollenberg, chairman emeritus, Longview Fibre Company, Longview, Washington, U.S.A.
The 10th annual ceremony will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, followed by dinner at 6:30 and the ceremony at 8 p.m. Attendees also will have the opportunity to view the soon-to-be-completed Paper Discovery Center, the paper-related interactive museum set to open in early 2005 along the Fox River in Appleton. This will include a sneak peek at the first completed exhibit honoring the full roster of hall of fame inductees.
